This is the 26th Farm Aid concert which began in 1985 in Champagne, Illinois, inspired by the success of Live Aid. Since that time it has grown into an organization that represents the needs of farmers and ranchers with a means for gathering information, educating the public and getting their voices heard including testifying before Congress.
Concerts have been held in one for or another all across the country including Texas and the farm belt states as well as Washington State, South Carolina, Massachusetts, New York City, New Jersey, Ohio and Virginia, wherever there are the family farmers can be found. One year Willie Nelson took Farm Aid on the road and did about 16 concerts to raise awareness. They have come to the aid of victims of floods, drought, blizzards, tornadoes, late frosts,
A special feature of the Farm Aid concert that grows in size and scope each year, is The HOMEGROWN Village that is set up outside the venue, that features home grown organic foods, as well as hands-on interactive demonstrations about sustainable family-farm practices, like seed saving, aquaculture, composting, beekeeping, renewable energy and urban agriculture practices.
